KSRTC bus passengers harassed

PUTTUR: Several KSRTC bus passengers have expressed their anguish over the act of

a few KSRTC bus drivers who force passengers to alight buses half-way through mostly

near the Mukrumpady depot, on the pretext that the bus had to undergo a repair. Such

incidents have become frequent at the Mukrumpady government bus depot, say several

passengers.

It is said that many buses which pick up passengers at the KSRTC bus stand of Puttur,

drop passengers halfway through on the road, when the bus reaches Mukrumpady,

stating there was a repair. The driver instructs the passengers to wait for the bus on the

roadside until it returns.

But the poor passengers who have already paid the bus fares are left with no other go

but to wait for hours together for the bus to return from the depot. When the problems of

the waiting passengers are pointed out, they express their helplessness and say they are

not supposed to take the passengers inside the depot. However, passengers complain that

they have to wait in the sun at Mukrumpady which lacks any amenity like drinking water

facility or lavatory.

Even the depot manager has failed to take any action when he was briefed of the

problem, they say. The general feeling is that such attitude of the KSRTC authorities

would make passengers shun KSRTC buses and opt for the private buses.
