PUTTUR: Relatives of a woman who died in the government hospital here soon after
giving birth to a child, have blamed medical negligence as the cause of the death of the
woman. They gathered outside the hospital and expressed their anguish against the
medical authorities.
Chandravathi (30), wife of Narayana Naika of Barya in Belthangady, was admitted
to the Puttur Government Hospital on May 21 for delivery. Meanwhile, doctors, on
examining the patient, found that the child in the womb was facing respiratory problems
and conducted a caesarean surgery on May 20. The mother and the child were healthy
after the surgery. The woman was also shifted to the room. However, she soon developed
breathing problems and breathed her last. But, the relatives of the deceased woman have
blamed the negligence of the hospital staff for the death and demanded action against
them.
The police who arrived at the spot, assured to look into the case and have registered a
case of unnatural death.
Doctors clarify : Meanwhile, clarifying on the case,Dr Pradeep said ? Chandravathi
had died of respiratory problem which arose as the water from her womb had entered
her respiratory tract leading to difficulty in breathing. There has been no medical
negligence.? He has also informed that such cases were very rare.
